This was my first time volunteering with this shelter and let me just say first how incredibly passionate these people are. From the second I met them I knew they were dedicated to helping these animals find a home. I was able to meet so many great people who had the same interests as me. When I first arrived I was behind the booth guiding people and helping give information about the adoptable dogs. Later on in the volunteering experience I was able to meet some new dogs named Jalapeño, Sadie May, and so many more that were all so sweet and friendly.

I first got greeted by the director of the event Sherill and also got to meet so many passionate people whilst I was there. I got to meet a father that volunteers almost every week with this same shelter, a dad/daughter duo and even though she was so young she will still so passionate and caring with the animals, and so many fostering parents. When I first arrived I got to hold this sweet shy dog named Mia. She had been through so much yet she was so gentle with everyone. It really showed me to me just how much these animals have been through yet, they are still willing to trust again, and that meant so much to me. As I held her in my arms I just felt her melt into me, and her fears of this world melt away with it. That was sort of a moment on this is why I do what I do. I want animals to have someone like me to trust and someone they can feel safe around. I was overjoyed in that moment when she finally stopped shaking and being so scared and was just content in my arms. This is why I love helping animals, I love when they are happy and feel like everything is going to be alright, and that their past doesn't define them.
